Wendy Cole – Director Wendy joined Maple Street School as the Director over a decade ago when her son was an infant. Previously, she had been employed as a Social Worker working with children and families at the Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center. Wendy has an MSW from University of Minnesota and a Masters Degree from Bank Street College in Early Childhood Leadership. Wendy also serves on the Board of the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, is a beginning gardener, enjoys writing and hanging with her husband and two children at their restaurant Flatbush Farm. Wendy is grateful to learn something new every day from the children, teachers, staff and families at the Maple Street School.
Matthieu Cornillon – Physical Plant Co-Chair
Father of Zazie, age 3 / Roots
Matthieu Cornillon and Amy Poueymirou are parents of Zazie (Roots). Matthieu grew up in RI, studied psychology in upstate NY, and wandered from coast to coast before ending up in Brooklyn about 15 years ago. He spends his days as a software project manager at an educational technology company. After taking some time off to focus on playing papa, he’s now trying to rekindle the acting career he came here to pursue. He loves spending time with his family at the house they are renovating in PA.
Sophia Dawson – Fundraising Co-Chair
Mother of Allen Art-Pharaoh Brunner / Waves
Sophia Dawson is a visual artist and was first introduced to Maple Street when she taught a mural workshop at the school’s summer camp. She is currently a student at NYU’s Steinhardt School, pursing a degree in Visual Arts Administration. She also works at Groundswell, non-profit arts organization, as both an office manager and muralist. Sophia exhibits her work, hosts open studios, and curates art exhibitions throughout the year.
Jean-Cedric de Foy – Physical Plant Committee Co-Chair
Father of Lucien / Waves, and Thomas / Stars
Jean-Cédric is married to Elizabeth Maletz. Born in Belgium, raised in England and Switzerland, he has now lived in New York since 2001. He is a registered architect with fourteen years of practice during which time he had the pleasure of working on numerous projects of which the Hudson River Park, a renovation of Roy Lichtenstein’s former New York Studio, and a thirty-six story skyscraper in Abu Dhabi. Jean-Cédric is a graduate of The Bartlett, University College London and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow Scotland.
Joshua Goldstein – Expansion Co-Chair
Father of Lillian / Waves Joshua is the father of Isadore and Lillian(Waves) and husband to Sara Rothstein. Joshua has worked at the New York City Mayor’s Office of Management & Budget for 14 years and is currently an Assistant Director responsible for Tax Policy, Revenue Forecasting and Economic Analysis. Joshua received a BA in Economics from Vassar College and an MA in Economics from the City University of New York.
Simon Harley – Classroom Support Co-Chair
Father of Noah Harley, Age 3 / Roots
Originally from Newcastle, England, Simon moved from London to New York in 2006 and has lived in Ditmas Park for five years. He holds an MA from the University of Glasgow and an MSEd from Baruch College and is currently Director of Graduate Admissions at Brooklyn College.
Kate Kearney – Communications Co-Chair
Mother of Molly Kearney, Age 3 / Roots
Kate moved from IN to NY to MA and finally back to NY again. She has lived in Brooklyn for about 12 years with her husband Johnny and has lived in PLG for the last 5 years. Currently, Kate is the Director of Organizational Development & Training for Choice Logistics where she develops and provides training for a globally-based staff of over 200 employees.
Autumn Leonard – Board Co-Chair
Mother of Osa Ruben / Waves
Autumn Leonard has been working in theater and film since she was eight years old and accidentally stumbled into a stage debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A love of storytelling has infused her work ever since. She worked as the creative-action coordinator for United for a Fair Economy, using theater techniques to help craft press events and stage creative social actions. She then worked as the community programmer for the International Festival for Arts and Ideas in New Haven before making the leap into film and attending the graduate Radio-Television-Film program at the University of Texas at Austin. She has spent the time since working on independent films and directing her own projects while enjoying the company of a (now not so tiny) ball of sunshine named Osa (Waves). She graduated with a BA in Theater Studies from Yale and holds an MFA in Film from UT-Austin.
Danielle Rollmann – Finance Co-Chair
Mother of Sophia, Age 3 / Roots
Originally from Princeton, NJ, and after many years in Manhattan, Danielle moved to Eastern Parkway in 2008 needing more green space and in anticipation of Sophia. After 17 years in consulting, she switched jobs this year to join a pharmaceutical company as international policy analyst, covering Europe and Asia.
Douglas Singleton – Membership Co-Chair
Father of Najela Singleton, Age 3 / Roots
Douglas Singleton is a book buyer and literary journal curator for McNally Jackson Books in Soho, and a freelance PR consultant. He has written for The Brooklyn Rail, L Magazine, and the art magazine BOMB, lived in Brooklyn for fifteen years (from Chicago), and in PLG for two years.
Susan Sloan – Treasurer
Mother of Asher Frisco – Waves
Susan grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and moved to New York in 1999 to pursue a career in architecture. She is a registered architect and the principle of Slo.vis. She graduated with a BA Arch from Tulane University and received a Masters in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University. Susan is thrilled to be on the Maple Street Board.
Jessica Stander – Expansion/Strategic Planning Co-Chair
Mother of Ada Stander, Age 3 / Waves
Jessica is a native New Yorker and has lived in PLG for six years. Her dad also grew up in the neighborhood in the 1940’s. Jessica is a registered architect and project manager at GW Architects, where she specializes in institutional projects such as schools, laboratories and healthcare facilities.
Jeremy Zilar – Communications Co-Chair
Father of Kepler Zilar, Age 3 / Roots
Originally from Colorado, Jeremy moved to PLG 10 years ago and has happily lived on the park and around the corner from Maple Street ever since. From 2003–04, he worked as an assistant teacher at Maple Street School. He is now the Content Strategist and Blog Specialist for The New York Times.
